This young man like virtually all people who perpetrated criminal acts, knew the difference between right and wrong, and he knew the consequences of shooting someone. But the smart part of his brain what is referred to as the prefrontal cortex was closed for business in that moment, and he was operating from a place much lower down in the brain, the same place that provides our fight or flight instinct.
