I would ask that you read this frequently

I would ask that you read this frequently. Part of reading this frequently is to be able to absorb and internalize these words which hopefully will lead to benefits for you. But on the times where you have difficulty in reading it frequently, pretend that you are reading it to listen to my voice. That means that I am not silent.

— from Before Takeoff (front matter) · Hebrew Ethical Wills by Israel Abrahams

In the book

So read them often. And on the days you can't, just hold the book and listen for me — because as long as you can hear me, I am not silent. What I hope you feel when you read it is two things, which to me are nearly the same thing: enlightened — that you learned something true and useful you didn't have before — and uplifted, with a little of the weight lifted off your shoulders. — Before Takeoff (front matter)

Read this often. And on the days you can't bring yourself to read it, just hold it and listen for my voice — because as long as you can hear me, I am not silent. I am so proud of every one of you, and I have taken more joy in my descendants than in anything else I was ever given. — Legacy / The Logbook (Legacy/Epilogue)
