That includes our parents, relatives, caregivers, teachers, etc. some of these people are wise people and have our best interests in mind and they want to impart rules that will service well in life. Three is the need to be long where we have a tendency to take on rules because we want to fit in. We're a tribal species that evolve to find security and kinship with each other and groups. It is safer than going get a loan. Therefore survival depends on being accepted within the tribe. But sometimes in order to be part of a tribe, we take on the tribes beliefs, irrational as those may be. So in exchange for acceptance we pay a price in individuality and independence. If we are led to think that everyone is doing it, believing good or buying it then we decide maybe we should do. And the last is our internal and securities where we create reasons to deal with our insecurities rather than logically trying to figure out what is going on.

Be suspicious, too, of where your beliefs came from. We absorb most of them uncritically — through childhood indoctrination, through authority figures, through the need to belong, through social proof, and through our own insecurities. The remedy is to question everything, to pass every claim through a sieve and lodge nothing in your head on mere authority and trust. — Expanding Your Range (Growth/Change/Education/Learning/Habit)
