Wonder and hope

Page 169. Wonder and hope. The greatest use of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it. There is a small sign at the bottom of Brooklyn Bridge. The green lettering was newly painted and red, life is worth living. If life‘s worth it’s so obvious, why was the sign put up in the first place?

In the book

"The greatest use of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it." Every pilot keeps a logbook. […] The metric by which I believe God measures a life is not dollars; it is the individual people whose lives you touched. The greatest use of a life is to spend it on something that will outlast the life itself — and the thing most likely to outlast you is not a thing at all. True legacy lies in the positive impact you have on the world, through your actions and through the inspiration you leave behind. — Legacy / The Logbook (Legacy/Epilogue)
