Page 277. The person who is truly effective has a humility and reference to recognize his own ‏ Perceptual limitations and to appreciate the rich resources available through interactions with the heart and mind of other human beings. That person values the differences because those differences add to his knowledge, his understanding of reality. When were left to our own experiences, we are constantly suffering from a shortage of data. And unless we value the differences in our perceptions, unless we value each other and give queens to the possibility that we’re both right, that life is not only either or, but they’re almost always third alternatives, we will never be able to transcend the limits of that conditioning.

In the book

Integrity is also active, not passive — it is identifying your values and then proactively organizing and executing around them every day, which is why maturity has been described as the balance between courage and consideration. Part of that maturity is the humility to recognize your own perceptual limits and to genuinely value the people who see differently, because their differences are exactly what fill the gaps in your own view. And a real friend will speak the truth to you even when it hurts — learn to be that kind of friend, and to keep them close. — True North (Ethics, Integrity, Truth, Values)
