She repeatedly found that the students that were praised for their effort, rather than their intelligence, performed better on the same tasks and we're also happier's. Her findings are both disturbing because they show how much impact ordinary words that we utter can have in our children, and encouraging because we know how we can easily make a significant and positive impact. We need to praise children for their efforts for that which is under their control rather than for their intelligence which is not .
