Page 63 keyword living keyword awareness when we attempt to develop awareness, we must consider two distinct aspects. One is beforehand, where we can take time to address self-inquiry, and the others in the moment, being present with what is happening now. And idea that really impacted my life is " it is always my best mind that got me here quote What this means is if I had had a better way to deal with the situation at the time I would have. This principle is important for two reasons. First, it allows you to forgive yourself after you made an apparent mistake. It was your best mind that got you there. And second, sheds light on the source of poor behaviors. You didn't have a better way of thinking. That was the only way you knew how cope in those moments. If you had had a better way, you would have taken advantage of it. The bright side is no matter which way you took, it was exactly the road that led you to the self-discovery you need it to make. Acknowledging that you were simply unconscious to another way of reacting and being is really the beginning of Awakening. When we behave and ways we later regret, it's important to remember that it was our best mind that brought us to those actions. If we knew better we would do better.

In the book
Two more mercies about regret. One: it was always your best mind that got you there. If you had had a better way to handle the moment, you would have used it — and knowing that lets you forgive yourself for what you cannot change. Two: you may glance backward, but you must not stare — obsessing about the past will never carry you forward. […] Decide by regret, then forgive yourself. Facing a hard choice, ask of each path, will I regret this? — and take the road with no regret. When something still went wrong, forgive yourself: you acted on the best mind you had in the moment. And make regret productive — feel it, then let it activate a change. — The Heart in the Cockpit (Emotion/Awe/Anxiety/Regret/Empathy)
