However, paying close attention to what we say and how we react will make us aware of these old patterns. Our children, for example, often trigger them and we are surprised to hear ourselves saying the same thing our parents said to us. This is a moment of opportunity. Do we really believe what we just said? Do we really want to hang on to that daughter attitude? In this opportunity for self-examination, we can scrutinize our inner selves, and discard that which is out Warner destructive. When we begin to recognize, examine a take responsibility for the quality of our thoughts, accepting the fire reaching impact they may carry, we see just how unruly they often are. The ancient wisdom of Socrates councils, the unexamined life is not worth living. Carefully monitoring and choosing the thoughts we give ourselves and others will contribute and measurably to the happiness, love, and compassion in our own lives first, then naturally spreading to others.
