The change process

The change process. To make changes that indoor, we have found, is a three step process that we call Purpose-Truth-Action. All three are necessary, and none is sufficient by itself. The first step and change process is to define purpose. First challenge is to answer the question how should I spend my energy in a way that is consistent with my deepest values? Connect to a deep set of values and create a compelling vision in the next stage, face the truth, the first question we ask is how are you spending your energy now? Each of us finds ways to avoid the most unpleasant and discomforting truth in our lives. Facing the truth begins with gathering incredible data. The third step to your change process is to take action, to close the gap between who you are and who you want to be.

In the book

The mindset is the one I keep returning to: manage your energy, not merely your time; recognize the true cost of the behaviors that deplete you, and then deliberately replace them. Lasting change in any tank follows one pattern — Purpose, then Truth, then Action: anchor to why it matters, face honestly where you actually are, and only then move. Then the steps, one tank at a time. — Fuel (Energy)
