My principles when it comes to giving money away…

My principles when it comes to giving money away to charity are that I do not turn anybody away from giving a donation. A number of years ago, I had a meeting with the head of the Jewish federation of Chicago and we got into a discussion about the charity. He asked me why I did not give large sums of money to the federation. I told him that when he goes out to collect he gets large sums of money from a few wealthy individuals. Those individuals write four or five checks a year with very very large sums. That particular year I had counted the number of checks that I had written, and the total was $992 checks. I told him that I gave charity to many many individuals and not just to a few organizations. I still have the principle of giving Charity to every individual or organization that comes to me. However I have changed a little in recent years in that I would like the monies that I give to have a larger impact. Hence some of the projects that you are working on. So with the this method, what will probably happen is that a lot of the organizations that I used to give a medium sized gift will be cut back the smaller gifts and I will make smaller numbers of larger gifts to organizations.
