Live in such a way that you can still…
Live in such a way that you can still look at yourself in the mirror. Says Buffett: "If I do some-thing that others don't like but I feel good about, I'm happy. If others praise something I've done, but I'm not satisfied, I feel unhappy." That's the perfect inner scorecard. So focus on that, and treat external praise and censure with friendly, composed disinterest.

In the book
The easiest way to think about integrity is reputation — and reputation is built only by thinking long-term. Keep what one great investor called an inner scorecard: if you do something others dislike but you feel right about, you're fine; if they praise something you're not satisfied with, you're not — so steer by that inner reading and treat outside praise and blame with friendly, composed disinterest. Integrity is also something you practice. A small discipline that protects it: do not let anything pass your lips that you are not certain is completely true. — True North (Ethics, Integrity, Truth, Values)
