Core Emotions Are Programs for Action, and These Actions Are Meant to Be Adaptive to the Moment. Emotions drive us to act in the moment. We feel these as impulses. Be it anger, sadness, fear, disgust, joy, excitement, or sexual excitement, core emotions prime us for action. We learn about our specific impulse by tuning in to our body in the moment we are having an emotional experience. The impulse will reveal itself when we focus on the emotion. There are general impulses for each core emotion.
