We are born with a body in a soul
We are born with a body in a soul. There are other portions to our self. The body has a natural tendency to lean towards physical pleasure. The soul has a natural tendency to lean towards spiritual pleasure. Sometimes these come into conflict. When conflict arises, Free Will and choice come into play. Self, free will choice definition
— from The Air Traffic Controller (God)
In the book
Its faculties are braided together — the physical, the emotional, and the intellectual as one — and Maimonides taught the humbling order of it: you cannot perfect the soul while neglecting the body that houses it, for the one is the ladder to the other. We are balanced, always and a little awkwardly, between the spiritual realm above and the physical world below, born with both a body that leans toward its pleasures and a soul that strains upward. The deepest questions you will ever ask — why am I here, what is all of this for — are the soul's own questions, and they are worth sitting with rather than rushing past. — The Air Traffic Controller (God)
