The first honest question to ask yourself is only this: do I actually want a spiritual life — do I want to be meaningfully conscious of my connection to my Creator? Answer yes, and even the ordinary preparations become holy: the one who readies things on the eve of the Sabbath is the one who has something to eat on the Sabbath, and the same simple law governs the whole spiritual life.
