Opportunist The Opportunist adapts by seeking out and seizing upon new opportunities. Like traders, the Opportunist is always looking for good deals. The Opportunist takes the family onto a new S-curve (presented in the previous chapter), developing diversity by cultivating different strengths in family and nonfam ily leaders. For instance, while on their annual drive to market in the cities, one family in the cattle business noticed that certain spots were becoming centers for grazing and commerce. The family bought land and acquired companies in these areas. Families like this one develop a portfolio of assets and are not sentimental about selling those assets that no longer produce. They are entrepreneurial and continually pursue innovation and new ideas.
