Whether this was the best thing for them is…
Whether this was the best thing for them is a matter of debate for the ages. What does a parent do for a child and why does he do it. In most cases, the parent is sincerely trying to do what he or she feels is best for the child. The child in later years may not appreciate it, or may feel differently. But the truth is, that the child does not know or remember what the circumstances are on their which those things happened. While there are always exceptions, I do not believe that any parent ever intentionally tries to hurt his child. It's funny and sad how children many times blame the parents for the things the parents have done. This is one of the major riddles of parenting and children.

In the book
Here is the great riddle of parents and children. In almost every case, a parent is sincerely trying to do what they believe is best for the child — I do not believe any parent ever sets out to hurt their own child. And yet children so often grow up and blame their parents for those very things, because the child does not know, or no longer remembers, the circumstances under which they were done. […] With everything I understand now, there are ways I dealt with my own parents, and with your parents when they were small, that I would do differently if I could. I am telling you this for your sake, because I want you to know, on the authority of someone who has lived it, that no parent who loves you ever means to hurt you, even when they get it wrong. When your turn comes to feel that old resentment toward the people who raised you, I am asking you to extend them the grace of that knowledge. — Family & Parenting (Family/Parenting)
