Joseph LeDoux a neuroscientist at NYU believes that the brain can hold just seven concepts in working memory at any time. Therefore the brain likes to take any action or thought that is repeated, or tagged as important in any way which seems to be linked to the amount of emotional charge in an event, and then the brain tries to hard code them. The brain pushes the map down into the part of itself that holds long-term memories and processes, call the subcortex, which is far more capacity than working memory .
