Difference is another great shame evoker

Difference is another great shame evoker. I like this but you like that. I want this but you want that. I am this but you are that. I feel this but you feel that. Why does difference cause shame? Because differ-ence is hard for the brain. We feel unsure of what the difference means. Is one of us bad? Is one of us better? Am I threatened? Am I "normal"?
