I am looking out of my window from the 9th floor of my hotel near the Los Angeles airport and am looking down at a McDonald's. This McDonald's right now has nine cars lined up to make an order. The average time for each car to go through the process is approximately 1 and 1/2 minutes. This means that the 9th car is going to take 13 and 1/2 minutes to get their order. It looks like that most people, not all, are getting coffees. I am curious if it is worth 13 and 1/2 minutes to get McDonald's coffee.? Obviously there are multiple other factors that need to be evaluated. Including that maybe this person has no other place to get coffee, or maybe getting meals. Would I try to do when making a decision whether to go to Dunkin' donuts for coffee or make an instant coffee at home, is to calculate how much time it takes me to go to Dunkin' donuts and then I assign a value to my time and also assign a value to the coffee I get at Dunkin' donuts. If they value that I get from Dunkin' donuts is greater than the cost of my time and the cost of the coffee, then I go If not, I stay home.
